Prof.Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri's Thai Ramayana 35. Malivagga Brahman.

Ravana did not give up after losing Kumbhakarna, he appointed Indrajit, a warrior and the conqueror of Indra. He fettered both Rama and Lakshamana in a Naga noose.  But Rama shot an arrow named Blaivat, and Garuda appeared. With his appearance, the serpents went as they had come. Indrajit fought valiantly and finally went to the world inhabited by the valorous. One by one all the great warriors fell in the battle, struck by the storm named Rama.

After that Rama slaughtered the army of Ravana, and the ground was full of bloodied bodies. Seeing all this the lord of the demons thought of a means of deliverance, 'The lord of three worlds, Malivagga Brahma, foremost among gods is renowned for justice.'   He reasoned that Rama had done harm to his country. If he were to be convince Malivaraja Brahma, also known by this name, Rama would be surely cursed. 'If it happens like this, all our desires will be fulfilled.'  (I read  on the net that Malivajara Brahma was Ravana's uncle!)

Ravana convinced with his own fallacious reasoning, sent two clever messengers, Nanyavega and Vayuvega with these words, 'Go at once to the world of Brahma and make him know the state of affairs. Stimulate him to come to earth and punish the evil-doer Rama, who deserves punishment.'

Having heard his request, Brahma descended along with the gods from heaven to earth. Bearing in mind non-partisanship, he chose a place between the two warring parties. On one side was the army of Ravana, on the other side was that of Rama.

Requested by Ravana to punish Rama, he spoke, 'O good ones, I have come here for justice. But I shall not deliver my judgement, until I listen to the words of Rama, likewise to those of Sita, and  with the gods as witness to the administration of justice.'

Brahma and all the gods listened to the words of Rama and Sita and on their testimony Brahma came to conclusion that it was Ravana who was guilty. Filled with anger he pronounced a curse on him, which implied that he would be killed by a weapon of Rama, and accompanied by gods, went back to his abode. Thus justice in the world prevailed!
